We’ve had a really busy summer in terms of volunteer work at OneKind, both in the office and out and about with our growing volunteer groups. Our volunteers are vital in our work to end cruelty to Scotland’s animals, and they really help us get our message out there and build support for our campaigns.
If you’d like to volunteer with OneKind then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can find out more information about the different ways you can volunteer here or you can join the OneKind volunteer Facebook group here.
1. Our Fife volunteer group campaigned for mountain hares
Our new Fife volunteer group were out and about with Mr Hare, encouraging people to sign our petition calling for greater protection of this iconic animal as well as handing out information on the campaign. This has helped us hit over 17,800 signatures on our petition, meaning we’re well on our way to our 20,000 goal! If you still haven’t signed, there’s still time to add your name here.
2. Edinburgh Vegan Festival hosted a OneKind stall
Volunteers Iris and Rachael helped us to spread the OneKind word at Edinburgh Vegan Festival. The team met lots of our supporters and as well as some new faces who were keen to learn more about the work we do. We also had all our merchandise on display and people were loving the OneKind t-shirts which you can also buy from our online shop here.
3. Lush in Glasgow ran a charity pot event
Lush has been a huge supporter of OneKind, and helped us to expose the mass killing of Scotland’s mountain hares in a film earlier this year. We headed to Lush Glasgow Fort this month to give customers the chance to meet our team, find out about our latest campaigns and pick up one of the charity pots.
4. Volunteers and their pets took part in the Dog Jog
We had so many volunteers sign up for challenge events over the month of August, including Chloe, Rushka and their dogs Ayda and John, who all took part in Dog Jogs to raise money for OneKind. Thank heavens for the sunny Scottish summer this year!
5. Staff and Volunteers raised money for OneKind by doing the Kiltwalk
The sun might have been shinning this summer, but it wasn’t on our side on one occasion when OneKind’s Project Officer Sarah braved the rain to walk 25 miles as part of the Kiltwalk in Dundee. We’ve also had volunteers take part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk and even more are signed up for the Edinburgh event later this month too.
