only by the light

of the moon

 

Fluorescent lovers

under the salty sea

find sweetness

in each other’s touch

Experts in ritualistic

romance

Cows

have no depth perception

To them

one-inch holes can seem 1000 ft deep

They can stare

straight into the darkness

and still

find the strength

to go on

Whales

follow their injured friends

to shore

providing palliative kindness

They are the ocean’s nurses

doing the hardest work

for the littlest of rewards

Elephants are the only animals who can’t jump

Their feet are planted firmly to the earth

Rooted in realism

They are happy where they are

Content in simply

and species are dying rapidly

 

The coral has greyed

become fragile and sickly

all energy now devoted

to trying to stay

with no one to comfort them

Bodies split in seven different directions

They turn to horcruxes

Fickle items

capitalist tools

All because

We never saw them as whole
