Did You Know
By OneKind supporter Kirsty Watters
Coral’s kiss
only by the light
of the moon
Fluorescent lovers
under the salty sea
find sweetness
in each other’s touch
Experts in ritualistic
romance
Did you know?
Cows
have no depth perception
To them
one-inch holes can seem 1000 ft deep
They can stare
straight into the darkness
and still
find the strength
to go on
Did you know?
Whales
follow their injured friends
to shore
providing palliative kindness
They are the ocean’s nurses
doing the hardest work
for the littlest of rewards
Did you know?
Elephants are the only animals who can’t jump
Their feet are planted firmly to the earth
Rooted in realism
They are happy where they are
Content in simply
being
Did you know?
Temperatures are rising
and species are dying rapidly
The coral has greyed
become fragile and sickly
Romance has turned irrelevant-
all energy now devoted
to trying to stay
alive
Did you know?
Calves are ripped from teats
to face slaughter and exploitation-
A darkness from which they cannot
look away
Did you know?
Whales are trapped
in glass cages
separated from their friends
They die alone and afraid
with no one to comfort them
as they go
Did you know?
Elephants are hunted and stripped for parts
Bodies split in seven different directions
They turn to horcruxes
Fickle items
capitalist tools
All because
We never saw them as whole
Did you know?
Did you know we can stop it?
Or did you choose to forget?
