#COPOUT26 Poetry Evening
November 3, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
COP26 is set to be one of the most important dates of the year, if not decade, as world leaders and delegates meet to discuss the future of our planet. International collaboration, the management of natural resources, energy consumption, fuel emissions – these are just some of the important topics the UN will be discussing at COP this November.
But what they aren’t discussing, is the importance of non-human animals in the battle for our planet.
- Animal agriculture is an alarmingly central yet overlooked cause of climate change.
- The exploitation of non-human animals has caused countless pandemics and disease outbreaks that threatens global sustainability.
- Habitat destruction for economic profitability is causing the 6th mass-extinction of species our world has ever seen.
- Humans are at the centre of all these problems, and we need to take action.
Enough is enough. We are tired. We are angry. We are frightened for our future. The voice of animals needs to be heard if we are to have any hope of protecting the stability of all life on earth.
We want you to be their voice this November. We want you to champion their cause and express your climate anxiety through the power of words. Join us for an evening of poetry and climate activism by helping us raise the voices of animalkind. We also have some pretty amazing special guests who’ll be performing at the event, so keep an eye out for more updates.
We only have 40 tickets up for grabs, so book yours today to avoid disappointment. Whether you’re a performer, poet, poetry enthusiast, or passionate about our climate, this is not an event to be missed.
You will need to show evidence of a negative lateral flow test before attending this event, and you will be required to wear a face-mask unless exempt.
We suggest a minimum donation of £5 per ticket, but we are aware of the challenges the past couple years have brought to many of us. If you can’t afford £5, you can donate whatever you feel comfortable with instead. If you can afford to donate a little more, we would be extremely grateful. Your money will help us to protect Scotland’s animals in a time where their future has never been at greater risk. We work tirelessly to change legislation by the lobbying the Government to improve animal welfare, and your donations fund our vital work.
If we don’t speak up for Scotland’s animals ahead of COP, who will? We’ll be broadcasting our poetry evening across our social media platforms all evening to make sure your voice is heard. While this is an awareness-raising event and a chance for poets to express their feelings, we will choose an over-all “winner” at the end of the evening. Our favourite poem will be turned into a print illustrated by a local artist, and the winner will receive a copy of their print alongside some OneKind merchandise. All participants will receive a thank you pack and have their poem publish on the OneKind website.
All entries are to be performed live at the event, but we will require a written copy at least 72 hours prior to the live performance. There is no entry fee for registered performers. Each performance should take no longer than 5 minutes to perform. There is no minimum time/word limit. Over 18s only.
