OneKind Leith Clean-up Edinburgh

July 14, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

OneKind Clean up
Leith Clean-upOur regular clean-up volunteer organiser Lauren Charlotte is keen for OneKind to team up with Leithers Don’t Litter, following their petition to local authorities regarding dealing with ongoing rubbish in the Water of Leith (in particular, the area around the Victoria Swing Bridge).
Lauren told our volunteer group,
“I think it would be good to lend our support and try to get rid of some of the plastic. I’m afraid the more heavy dredging of trash/debris will need to be left to the Council, unless any OneKind volunteers have a spare boat kicking about!”

From the Leithers Don’t Litter campaign:

“Over the last 20 years the issue of trash in the Water of Leith between the Bernard Street and Victoria bridges has been raised repeatedly with little success. Residents, businesses and visitors are disappointed and angry at being ignored by the private interests and elected representatives holding power and authority over the appearance and public health of our iconic quarter. There is no evidence of them taking their responsibilities seriously. We ask your help to restore our neighbourhood to one of which we can jointly be proud.”
