Members are at the heart of OneKind Scotland – without your support, we couldn’t be the strong voice for Scotland’s animals that we are today. We want to share our members’ stories, and highlight their passion and commitment to animal welfare, so we’ll be putting the spotlight on a different member each fortnight.
Today, meet Charlotte – traveller, animal activist and lover of vegetarian haggis.
Describe yourself in a sentence.
Travelling snow bum.
Why did you join OneKind?
Why wouldn’t I join Onekind?
What’s an issue relating to animal welfare that you’re particularly passionate about?
The disconnect between humans and animals. Education is needed to show how complex animals are and how valuable it is to live with them instead of against.
If you had to pick one native Scottish animal as a favourite, what would it be?
Haggis. The vegetarian haggis. Hah! Red squirrel and red fox (I know that’s two but they’re both red).
Tell us about about your current pet, or your favourite past pet?
Molly. She is a beautifully curious and playful dog. A Collie, she will amuse herself for hours playing in the stream in her own. Unless you’re doing something really interesting like raking, vacuuming or dancing, then she’ll try her utmost to join in.
What’s on your current music playlist?
I have over a hundred playlists to soundtrack most of my life. Hang on, I’ll check what was last on… Oreo Cookie Blues by Lonnie Mac. What a song. I’m going to listen to it right now.
What’s one thing you’d really like to do before the end of 2017?
Well, since I’m away most of the year (right now in Argentina and I’ll soon be off to Japan for the northern-hemi winter), I’m really looking forward to spending some quality time with the family in November. Go play with my niece and nephew and of course, Molly.
