Animal protection charity OneKind has responded to the news that giant panda Tian Tian will not be giving birth at Edinburgh Zoo this year.
It was understood in August that Tian Tian was about to give birth.
OneKind Campaigner, Sarah Moyes said:
“We hope today’s announcement will mark the end of Edinburgh Zoo’s attempts to impregnate Tian Tian. The panda has been subjected to years of unsuccessful breeding efforts, and surely now, it’s time Edinburgh Zoo just leave her in peace.
We have always said that the decision to impregnate Tian Tian has been about PR with little regard to the interests of pandas or conservation, and had Tian Tian given birth this poor panda would have only known a life of captivity.”
I sincerely hope Edinburgh Zoo abandon any further attempts to impregnate Tian Tian.
This does nothing to aid conservation whatsoever and is mearly a money making scheme in the hope of adding more money to the zoos coffers!!!
Is it not bad enough that this poor girl is living her life in captivity that the zoo must also violate her body with invasive surgery.
Come on Edinburgh Zoo, give up stressing Tian Tian anymore.
